Triathlon Training Update 9: Last One and Full Taper

So this week was an easy one in so many ways. Physically there wasn’t much to do with training and work wise we’re gearing up to do a big project where we REALLY have to have all our i’s dotted and our t’s crossed. So lots of meetings and we sold the house! Actually to the first people that looked at it which is sort of a nice compliment. We’re leaving the site and such up until closing in case the deal falls through but it doesn’t seem likely. On a bit of a whim I decided to redo my office and we got some new old living room furniture from a friend. All that organizing, sorting and re-arranging worked well to keep me distracted and calm during race week. Our house can be a bit chaotic at times from tools, toys and dishes plus not having the time to do anything but drop stuff and move onto the next thing and I really want my office to be this place I can walk into and feel like I can take a breath. Plus I’m starting a tad early on those things I need to get to when training stops. I did all the laundry on Wednesday started packing on Friday and I’m writing this post from our rental house the night before the race. Exciting right?

I’m almost certain that this will be the last Tuesday training update post for a while since this race is the end of my training season. And it’s time I’ve been in training for over 5 months since February and it’s time to give the body a break! You never know I might come up with another idea to fill this slot but no ideas so far.

This week the schedule just said to do half an hour on the bike or running twice on Tuesday and Wednesday and splits the day before. Which I didn’t exactly do so we’re going to change the format a bit this time. You might remember from last week’s training update I had a very busy Monday including a run, hot yard yoga and work swimming. Well it turns out I was really sore on Tuesday and Wednesday probably from the yoga since the heat lets you access places you don’t usually plus I haven’t been doing it that much lately so checked off the box for Tuesday based on a really big Monday.

Thursday: 4 k run: I spent Thursday withy jaw on the floor helping out a friend. You can read a little more about it in last week’s motivation post. Everyone was okay and it was just a stuff thing really but I really needed my short little run to get some perspective on the day. I know I’m being a little evasive here but it’s not really my storey to tell. It was one of those days where you’re just having too many too intense thoughts and you need a way to clear your head. Times like this I’m glad to have something like running in my life to rebalance my head. That said I still had a very hard time shutting my brain down that night and didn’t get a whole lot of sleep.

Saturday: Splits: We got into town a bit early to pick up my kit and check out the beach the race is on. I convinced my mom to go for a swim with me and afterwards we went for walk on the beach and I did my splits. That was it for the week. I should also put it out there I spent a lot of time this week convincing honey I don’t want or need a fat bike for my birthday this week to almost no avail. Seeing the sweet one at Pictou County Cycle didn’t do a whole lot to help in that process.

If you’re interested in the plan I’m using it’s the realistic olympic triathlon training plan I wrote available here. While you’re there check out my other plans too including the new bare minimum 1/2 marathon training plan, more info here. What are you training for this season?
